Settling down with Eeedora
Since I got my Asus EEE netbook, I have been working on finding a distribution that would fit its purpose. I have tried many and tested out many. Every time I installed one I had to do further work in order to get everything up and running and with the lack of tutorials and guides I was basically wasting my time than enjoying my Asus EEE. Ubuntu is getting too fatty for me with the launch of 8.10 and still requires tweaks in order to have it the way you want and make it boot fast. I decided to switch my distro and tried Eeedora based on Fedora. I have always looked at Fedora. In fact it was my first distro to try coming from Windoez on my PC. I was able to put it on my USB using UNetBootIn and booted it on my netbook. The installation was really fast and did not require a lot of knowledge. After the installation finished I was greeted with my Desktop and the XFCE environment. I was very happy to know that my wireless worked right away using the WiFi radar. All the function keys worked as well except when turning off the wireless, the light stays on. Sound works thanks to the ultra-new pulseaudio. The screen luminosity is perfect. Better than on other distros. It is very clear and bright. I noticed that when I perform a restart, it shuts down my netbook. I have not looked into fixing this since I can just press the power button after to start the netbook again. I have not tried the webcam since I do not chat at all. All in all, I have been pleased with the Eeedora. I like the fast boot and the simplicity of XFCE with lightweight applications. I would recommend it for those who love simplicity and efficiency at the same time.
